HURRICANES
ABOUT THE HURRICANES...
The Hudson Valley Hurricanes Fastpitch Softball Organization is made up of competitive fastpitch softball teams from New York's Lower Hudson Valley Region. The Hurricanes were originally founded by Chris Montana in 2004 where he began play with one 12U team in 2005. By 2012, the Hurricanes organization had grown from one team to eight teams. These teams have won dozens of tournaments and achieved National ranking in ASA and PONY.
In 2019, Hurricanes alumni, Samantha McDonald, and her father, Joe McDonald, took over the Hudson Valley Hurricanes Organization. Sami played on the Hurricanes from age 11 until she graduated high school. She played 12U to 18U Gold under Jon Mangan, Joe McDonald & Bridget Burt. Her team traveled to 28 states and competed in top College Showcases including The Champions Cup in Huntington Beach, California, The Colorado Fireworks in Aurora, Colorado & The Rising Stars Showcase in Plantation, Florida. Sami went on to play Division II softball at St. Thomas Aquinas College where she was a 4-year starter and earned her degree in Childhood Education. While at STAC, Sami won 2013 Rookie of the Year, First & Second Team All-Conference for outfield & second base, and holds 8 batting titles in the STAC Record Book. Sami's teammates on her Gold team also went on to play at Division I, II & III schools. Sami played alongside: Brittany Mangan (STAC), Lauren Milligan (Siena College), Danielle DeStaso (Seton Hall University), Janine Lalli (Marist College), Kat Davis (University of Rhode Island), Lauren Navarro (STAC), Katie O'Flynn (SUNY Oneonta), Ally Brown (Lafayette College), Mary Wiley (George Washington University), Amanda Bender (George Mason University), Mary O'Reilly (University of Delaware) & Gemma Mahoney (SUNY Oneonta). Other successful teams were run by Chris Montana, Kristen Sullivan, Kristen Mack, Shellie Guider, George Colby & Brian Peterson.
In 2019, we started with two 18U Gold teams. In 2020, we formed a 14U team coached by Mike Cirillo. Today, our teams from 10U to 18U Gold are made up of dedicated student athletes from the Tri-State area.
Our organization is committed to the continued improvement and growth of our players both on and off the diamond. We focus on teamwork, sportsmanship and giving nothing less than 100% effort whenever we play. We expect total commitment to the team, good sportsmanship, respect for the game, our teammates, our opponent, the umpires, our coaches and our parents. Our goal is to develop talented teams with strong character that compete at the highest level and represent us at Nationals.
